-Literal Meaning- The poem is literally about a person who is going through suffering and oppression. This person is then comforted by someone who is very special to him or her and deeply loves.
-Philosophically- this poem could mean that in times of pain or suffering, there are people significant in a person's life who can sympathize or comfort them even in the worst situations. I think it may also reflect on that saying that eyes are windows to a persons soul because during the second stanza, the last two lines say: "Enough for me, the calm and steadfast light; That softly shines within your loving eyes." and also the last 2 lines of the poem say: Within the lights and shadows of your eyes, The only beauty that is never old".
These couple lines show how her eyes are beautiful because they show how so much emotion and love she has(her eyes are windows to her soul). It shows that eyes are the only beautiful thing that never gets old because eyes are wondows to a persons soul.
